Wine and Wisdom fun quiz evening raises over £2,000 thanks to Barclay's support

It was back to winning ways when the Wimborne Civic Society took the honours at the Annual Wimborne in Bloom Wine and Wisdom 'Fun' Quiz Evening held in the Allendale Centre on Friday Evening (6th March). It was the fourth time that the Civic Society has won in the 22 year history of the event the last time being in 2011. This time they were six points clear of two teams which tied for second place, Explore Dorset Ltd (a new entry) and Oakdale Oaks. Fourth equal, a point behind, were teams from the Minster Church and Town Meets Country. The six member winning team were presented with the ECO-COMPOSTING SHIELD and a bottle of red wine each.

35 Teams from local Organisations and Groups 'pitted' their wits against each other in the Quiz, each team paid £36 for a table of six and received food and wine. They answered 8 rounds of questions on a variety of subjects including General Knowledge, Dorset and Food and Drink There was also a very successful raffle which raised over £500.

During the course of the evening teams were also invited to take part in a tabled quiz to name 'Famous Faces'.

The final result of the evening, including the raffle, was over £2,000, the total being boosted by Barclays Bank matched funding of both the entrance money and the raffle given under their work in the community programme.

Richard Nunn, Chairman of Wimborne in Bloom said after the evening, "the support of all those attending our quiz is very much appreciated by Wimborne in Bloom together with all the helpers and those who generously donated prizes for what was an excellent raffle. Such support enables us to ensure the floral displays in the Town continue to please both our residents and visitors alike".

The money raised will be used for this years 'In Bloom' campaign when the Town is entered into both the Regional Competition and the National Britain in Bloom Finals. Judging of the Town in both competitions takes place in July for the Region and in August for the National.

Next year's Wine and Wisdom Evening has already been booked for Friday 4th March 2016.
