2016 Clean for the Queen Special Event
Around 70 people turned up over the weekend for the Wimborne in Bloom 'Clean for the Queen' Litter pick. The National Campaign was launched earlier this year to mark the forthcoming 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen and Richard Nunn, Chairman of Wimborne in Bloom said "We wanted to play our part in marking this special occasion". He continued by paying tribute to all those who turned up on both Saturday and Sunday morning when, although it stayed dry it was very cold. He thanked members of Wimborne in Bloom, Outside Bodies including Wimborne Rotary Club, Michael Tomlinson our MP and the Public at large who gave up their precious time to help with the clean-up. The event was also supported by BBC Radio Solent and by Radio Wimborne.

He also thanked the Group known as The Point, a Christian Group which meets every Sunday afternoon for an hour at the Street Light Skate Park in Stone Lane. They spent their hour this week clearing all the litter from Willow Walk and the beds around the Waitrose Store. Waitrose themselves were supporting the National Campaign with the provision of 'regal coloured' 'mauve' Clean for the Queen Litter Bags for use over the weekend. Richard also wanted to thank the Dorset Waste Partnership for their support with the provision of bags for the litter and for clearing away the filled bags so speedily. Richard said that generally the town was found to be good but still in excess of 50 bags of litter were collected.
