2018 Wine and Wisdom Quiz - A Bloomin' Good Quiz Evening
The 25th annual Wimborne in Bloom Wine & Wisdom Quiz took place in the Allendale Centre on Friday 23rd March rescheduled from three weeks earlier when the snow necessitated postponement. This didn't deter the thirty teams who took part and told us that they had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Wimborne Civic Society narrowly beat The Minster Churchmice - amazingly the same first and second as last year - to win a bottle of wine each and retain the Eco-Composting Shield whilst Does Grey Matter achieved third place. Sharing the weight of propping the other teams up were Wimborne Horticultural Society and the Wimborne/Valognes Twinning Association who had a second team which finished 10th.
Surprisingly the questions in the Sport round proved the most challenging with The Life and Works of Thomas Hardy and Dorset Country Houses, the two 'local' rounds, only slightly less so!
The raffle raised a staggering amount of over £500 to contribute to the total raised for the evening of approx. £1500 - again boosted by the Barclays Bank Matched Fundraising within their work in the community programme.
Wimborne in Bloom thanks all who supported the event by participating, helping with the running, or who generously donated prizes for the raffle. The funds raised make an excellent contribution to the costs of providing the floral displays in the Town for all to enjoy in a year when Wimborne will be representing the South and South East Region in the Town Category in the RHS National Britain in Bloom competition.
And next year's Quiz Evening will take place on Friday 1st March 2019 so book the date in your diaries now!
