Wimborne in Bloom Celebrates 30 Years
Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November 2022
There was a double celebration for Wimborne in Bloom over the weekend. Firstly on Saturday just prior to the switching on of the Town Lights and Christmas Tree in The Square the Mayor Cllr Carol Butter announced the winner for the Town Council 'Volunteer of the Year Award' and Wimborne in Bloom, which was one of the three finalists were crowned the Winners. The Prize was £100 and the honour of helping the Mayor switch on the Lights. Second placed was the Leigh Park Food Bank and Third was Avril a volunteer at the Lewis Manning Charity Shop. The Mayor said "that it had been her privilege to meet so many inspirational people who have given their time selflessly and without hesitation to the benefit of the Town and its Residents and that the Award would recognise individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the Town of Wimborne Minster and its residents all as volunteers."

Then on Sunday Wimborne in Bloom celebrated the 30th Anniversary of its formation. It was back on 27th November 1992 that the then Mayor Anthony Oliver organised an Open Meeting in the Heritage Centre the result of which was the founding of Wimborne in Bloom. In the intervening years many Awards have been won including the overall winner of the Small Town Category with a Gold Award in Britain in Bloom in 2012.
